On Wednesday 24 January Boisdale of Belgravia was reminiscent of a Later with Jools Holland studio set. The Belgravia stalwart hosted a star studded event attended by Kylie Minogue, Mick Hucknall, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Bob Geldof, David Gilmore, Mel C not to mention tinsel town and silver screen stars Hugh Laurie, Jenifer Saunders, Dawn French, journalist and philanthropist Jemima Goldsmith and comedian Harry Hill.
Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial NV and Belvedere Vodka Martinis were served at the reception to the spectacular boogie woogie sounds played by legend octogenarian Neville Dickie.
The guests were treated to a delicious dinner of Scottish shellfish extravaganza of langoustine, sea urchin, razor clams, oysters, mussels, crab and Dunkeld smoked salmon accompanied by Chablis 2015, Domaine Fourey followed by Aberdeenshire grass fed dry aged fillet of beef with Perigord black truffle and smoked mashed potatoes with a delicious claret, Château Rahoul 2009, Graves.
Throughout the meal talented pianist Angus Macdonald entertained the esteemed crowd with classic jazz and after a magnificent selection of British farmhouse cheeses with Hennessey XO Cognac, Jools blew out 60 candles on a mouth-watering white chocolate and strawberry cake after which all 120 guests burst into Happy Birthday song.
After a touching speech Jools was presented with a stunning Parmigiani Tonda Métrographe watch by his charming wife Christabel. Then the party really started! Michael “Bami” Rose and his Jamaican band rocked the joint and led by Kylie Minogue and Jools the entire room erupted into dancing to the infectious reggae/jazz beats.
