Crying, Laughing, Loving: Labi Saffri
I am drawn to singer-songwriters and the title song ‘Crying, Laughing, Loving’ still remains one of my favourite songs.
Live and Direct: Aswad
This was the first quintessentially British reggae band. Their songs reflected a moment in time on the Black British landscape both socially and politically, with dynamic live performances that remain legendary.
Rumours: Fleetwood Mac
‘Go your own way’ — what a track. I discovered them as a young teenager at school along with Dire Straits’ ‘Brothers in Arms’. Both albums bring back sweet childhood nostalgia. Both albums remain my long-distance driving companions.
Every Picture Tells a Story: Rod Stewart
I fell in love with ‘Maggie May’ the moment I heard it, conjuring such imagery written by the charismatic Mr Rod Stewart.
Fields of Gold: Sting
Another great singer-songwriter. I adore the beauty and simplicity of this album.
Carroll Thompson is currently writing a Lovers Rock musical and is also working on her new album, which will be released in 2025.
