Boisdale Life
June 12 2019
On Wednesday 12th June 2019 Boisdale Life Magazine, hosted the third annual Boisdale Life Editors Lunch and Awards, in association with aviation specialists Jetfly, to thank and celebrate all of the writers, interviewees and key partners that have supported and participated in the success of Boisdale Life magazine over the last five years.
The relationship between Boisdale and its customers extends beyond food, drink and music to an identifiable and diverse approach to life, and the event was a celebration of the wonderful writers that gave Boisdale Life its strongly libertarian and free-thinking media voice.
Boisdale Life Magazine was, in part, founded on the ideals of libertarianism and often addresses real or perceived infringement by the government on individual liberties. Contributors to the magazine have included, Tom Parker Bowles, William Sitwell, Claire Fox, Ella Whelan, Mark Littlewood, Roger Bootle, Bruce Anderson, Nicolai Tolstoi and Nick Ferrari, to name a few, many of whom attended the congratulatory lunch. Other prominent guests included political commentator and television presenter Andrew Marr, entrepreneur Nancy Dell’Olio and Goggleboxstar Mary Killen.
The event hosts — Boisdale Life Editor-in-Chief, Ranald Macdonald and Managing Director of Boisdale Media Andrew Davies – also thanked guests at the lunch for contributions made to other areas of the magazine – notably the music content, excellent food & drink coverage, economics & politics, travel and celebrating the big interviews that have been conducted over the last five years. Co-host and last year’s Best Travel Column Winner Stanley Johnson gave a speech in which he mentioned that his son Boris Johnson was making his pitch for Tory leader the same day and added, “someone said I should be at Boris’s launch. I said ‘No! I’m going to Boisdale’s LUNCH.”
The lunch began with The Botanist Gin & Double Dutch Tonics, J Vineyards Cuvee 20 Brut NV, Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager and was followed by a three-course lunch consisting of Dunkeld smoked salmon, caraway seed crumpet, sour cream & salmon caviar accompanied by Botham 76 Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2017; Roast dry aged fillet of Aberdeenshire Angus beef, Wye Valley asparagus, buttered spinach, smoked potato purée & Girolle mushroom sauce with Botham 80 Series Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018; and Selection of British cheeses: Lincolnshire Poacher, Golden Cross, Mrs Bell’s Blue, Stinking Bishop, oat cakes, pickled walnuts, fresh pears served alongside Sir Ian Botham Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz 2013.
The winners, listed below, received framed certificates, J Vineyards Cuvee 20 Brut Champagne and stunning Montegrappa pens. Montegrappa, the first Italian manufacturer of superior writing instruments, was founded in 1912. Peerless craftsmanship has defined this Italian brand, known around the world for its creativity and styling.
